PLO hand filter

Postby d2themfi » Wed May 30, 2012 9:27 pm

Hi,

I was wondering what basis you used for the PLO hand ranking filters. Meaning when you go to filter a report and go for holecards, you have the option to select the top X% of all PLO hands using a slider (you can also select "Not" the same range). However when I use the filter, the hands that show up were actually really different than the hand rankings that say propokertools uses or really any feasible hand rankings I could think of. For example when selecting hands in the top 20% hands like 9753ss or 7632ds came up in the report- I dont think anyone can argue these hands are even close to the top 20% of all omaha hands in any situation. Any help is appreciated

I don't know how the order is defined but I'll see what I can find out for you.

I have this from one of the developers:

The ranking system is based on the Hutchison point count system. It is converted into a % based on where it sits as a % of all possible hands (not a linear scale). So the point values are ~0-~58, all possible hands are distributed into a histogram, and the % value is calculated from there. So 10% should represent ~10% of hands.

Ok thanks, I will look through his system. If possible I would really like to request that you use propokertools hand rankings system. It is the most commonly accepted hand rankings used my mid/high plo players- I dont actually know of anyone who uses an alternative system before this.

Here is an explanation of how PPT came up with their system

Bump! I raised #1199401 then found this thread.

I doubt that after 13 years, anything will be done about it, but for what it's worth, I am adding my vote to using the propokertools hand rankings system.
The actual ordering is in:
http://www.propokertools.com/oracle_help/range_of_hands
The full text files are under the section Percent of Hands

Hutchison's point count system may have been good in 1997 when it was first devised, but it is unsuitable for today's more refined player pool.
