Did I restore the database correct?

Hi

I reinstalled windows xp and when I reinstalled pt2 and moved the files I did a backup of, I can´t find any hands. I can load the old database from pt2 but no hand appears..


short description:

First I made a copy of hhdb.mdb ,ptrack.mdb and ptrack2.mdb and ptrack3.mdb to another harddrive. (ptrack2 and ptrack3 are my shorthanded and fullring databases.)

Then I reinstalled windows xp and downloaded and installed pokertracker from pokertracker.com.

Finnaly I copied the mbd-files to the pokertrackerfolder.


I started pt2, -->file--> maintain database names and opened one db from the ones I made a backup of. went to preferences and clicked "remove all filters", but no hands appear. Tried with all databases but I can´t see on e single stat.


Have read the FAQ but nothing seems to help... Have I missed something?

Open the Utilities > Database Maintenance and Options window. Are you able to select your player name from the list there? If so, does it show any sessions?

nope. Just blank fields.

It´s like the database even hasn´t been loaded yet.

Open the File > Maintain Database Names window and double-click on the name field for each entry on this window. What are the file names and sizes that display in the window that opens?

I double-clicked on them, and I got the correct ptrack-databases. ptrack2.mdb and ptrack3.mdb (those from the backup) Sizes are all between 800kb to 1000kb. It seems very small if you ask me. (My hh.mdb file by the way are huge though, 460.000kb)

Those are very small, a blank db file would be about 700kb so something isn't right. You should also have had a file called ptrack.mdb - do you still have that one from before?

yes I have. ít´s 823kb in size.

I still got all the mdb-files from the backup on the other hardddrive and all the sizes are very small, just like when I click on them in the file-->maintain database names.

Don´t have that many played hands in the databases, but alot of observed hands.
I thinking of starting over again with a fresh db and then convert to the postgreSQL database soon as I get a few hands. Get a feeling It´s easier to make backups with a postgreSQL database, am I right?

Yes and no. PostgreSQL is made up of a number of different data files, not one file like Access. However, when you use the backup function in PT is creates a single, compressed, backup file of you database that you can use to restore from if need be. So if you are good about doing backups on a regular basis it is easier but most people don't take the time to do that.

As to the files. It's very strange that the ptrack files are so small but the hhdb.mdb file which contains the hand histories is that big. I'm not sure what happened there. One option to can try it to export the hands from the hand history db and then reimport them which. See the 4th thread of this post which describes how to do this:

I followed the instructions in that thread and got my hands back. :) Thank you!

Both the ptrack and hh mdb-files are now big and healthy.
Now I just have to sort the NL hands in a shorthanded and a new fullring database and delete all FL that I don´t play anymore.


Off topic: does people usually have one db for nlsh and one for nlfr? Thing is when you sometimes play sh and sometimes fr you have to load a new autoratefile and rate all players again each time (at least thats what I always have done ), or is there another way?

If you use 2 sets of auto-rate rules then it would be easier to have 2 separate databases. If you don't you have to remember to keep going back and switching your auto-rate rules depending on what you are playing at the time.
