Playing against certain (types of) players

Postby Borsaci007 » Tue Dec 14, 2010 6:13 pm

I want to know, how I play special hands, let's say my continous bets, against certain (types of) players, let's say aggressive ones or calling stations.

If I could use the "SUM" Function in "HOLDEM CASH HAND" section, then this would be possible by not using "filter on active player". But PT3 cannot do this. See this post for it:
https://www.pokertracker.com/forums/vie ... 18&t=32408

My next idea was the auto-rate function by using the "player_winner.val_icon" formula in the "HOLDEM CASH HAND" section, and again by not using "filter on active player". I think this should work, but auto-rate can only use 14 player types to describe and thats really too less for me.

I am sure, that this must be possible. Can you please help me? It would be great, if the solution works on the "HOLDEM CASH HAND" section.

The best way to do this is with custom reports.

Could you give me a couple of examples of how you define these opponents? I'll gladly help you write the first one of these reports.

Let's make it for the beginning as easy as possible. For examble the number of hands :

cnt_hands =
sum(if[holdem_hand_player_statistics.id_hand > 0, 1, 0])

Group A of players have "cnt_hands" less than 10 hands observed by hero.
Group B of players have "cnt_hands" between 10 and 100 hands observed by hero.
Group C of players have "cnt_hands" mor than 100 hands observed by hero.

If you want to complicate this, we can use this post to define the opponents:
http://www.pokertracker.com/forums/view ... =15&t=5434

For the special hands, we can use all continous bets:
flg_f_cbet

Now I want to know how successful I play my continous bets against Group A, Group B or Group C.

(I know that these 3 groups does not make a big sense, but I just want to know princible, how to do this)

There are two ways to do this and it depends on what you want to do.

If you just want to see something like your cbet success percentage statistic, you actually want to do this in the Holdem Cash Player Statistics section - you won't be able to get that number out of a Holdem Cash Hands report. The Hands report will just list the hands that match and won't give you stats over the sample. If you want to look at individual hands, you do want a Hands report.

Either way some of the work is the same. To look only at hands where you were at the flop with a cbet opportunity against players you had between 0 and 10 hands on, you want to add these two filters in the blue Filters section, while filtering on active player:

(1) holdem_hand_player_statistics.flg_f_cbet_opp
(2) holdem_hand_player_statistics.id_hand in (SELECT hhps.id_hand from holdem_hand_player_statistics hhps where hhps.flg_f_saw AND hhps.id_player in (SELECT hhps2.id_player from holdem_hand_player_statistics hhps2 GROUP BY hhps2.id_player HAVING (sum(case when (hhps2.id_hand > 0) then 1 else 0 end) BETWEEN 0 and 10)))

(1) Limits the search to only hands where you had a chance to cbet the flop (if you want to look only at hands where you did cbet, make it just flg_f_cbet).
(2) Limits to hands in a subquery. The first subquery lists all hands where the player saw the flop and the player matched a certain description provided by the second subquery. The second subquery looks for all players who have between 0 and 10 hands in the database.

The nice thing about this setup though is that you can actually use these exact same filters in the Holdem Cash Hand section - so if you want to see your cbet percentage and cbet success percentage, build the report in the player statistics section. If you want to see the actual hands, go to he cash hand section and use the same filters and display the data about the individual hands and you'll see the individual hands and be able to click and replay them as you desire.

First of all a BIG BIG BIG thank you kraada.

This is complicated, but I could understand the principle in it. Now I wanted to use this work process for grouping players with "Total AF" higher than 3, but I still don't know, how to start. Can you please help me one more time.

Total AF > 3
(cnt_f_bet + cnt_f_raise + cnt_t_bet + cnt_t_raise + cnt_r_bet + cnt_r_raise) / (cnt_f_call + cnt_t_call + cnt_r_call) > 3

All that changes here is the "HAVING (sum(case when (hhps2.id_hand > 0) then 1 else 0 end) BETWEEN 0 and 10)))" portion of the filter.

For Total AF < 3 you want:

HAVING (( (CASE WHEN ( ((sum(holdem_hand_player_statistics.cnt_f_call)) + (sum(holdem_hand_player_statistics.cnt_t_call)) + (sum(holdem_hand_player_statistics.cnt_r_call))) ) <> 0 THEN ((((sum((case when(holdem_hand_player_statistics.flg_f_bet) then 1 else 0 end))) + (sum(holdem_hand_player_statistics.cnt_f_raise)) + (sum((case when(holdem_hand_player_statistics.flg_t_bet) then 1 else 0 end))) + (sum(holdem_hand_player_statistics.cnt_t_raise)) + (sum((case when(holdem_hand_player_statistics.flg_r_bet) then 1 else 0 end))) + (sum(holdem_hand_player_statistics.cnt_r_raise))) * 1.0 )/( ((sum(holdem_hand_player_statistics.cnt_f_call)) + (sum(holdem_hand_player_statistics.cnt_t_call)) + (sum(holdem_hand_player_statistics.cnt_r_call))) )) ELSE 0 END) > 3))

If you want to also change > 3 to between 1 and 3 (for example) you can replace "> 3" with "BETWEEN 1 and 3" and leave everything else the same.
