PT3 sending lots of info over the internet

Postby HadesCT » Tue Jul 17, 2012 5:55 pm

Hi,

I have been running PT3 on a new computer for about 3 months.

I have noticed that pokertracker.exe has sent out 2.5GB of data over the internet.

What is this information that it is sending, and what is it used for?

Or has my computer been compromised?

Sorry ...

after some more investigation it is network traffic. Im assuming the application uses a TCP/IP connection to connect to postgres.

But 2.5GB does seem a little excessive

All of the information in PT3 is stored in a PostgreSQL database, and every time you import a hand, use the Hud or look at a report it transfers data to or from PostgreSQL and that will quickly mount up.

Just to clarify: the default PokerTracker installation installs PostgreSQL locally so even though the data is sent via a TCP/IP connection it's sent to localhost - your own machine. So it doesn't actually go anywhere else unless you configure a server elsewhere and choose to send data there.
